5. OWC has tested it and confirms that.. the MacBook Pro 15” (2012) has two drive bays, each capable of running an OWC 6G SSD at full 6Gb/s speeds. which is the SATA Revision 3.0 speed. They've also setup a striped RAID which benchmarked at "over 1000MB/s read speeds and write speeds that nearly hit 900MB/s".The ssd controller chip is the same from 2013- at least 2015. they updated the driver in 2015 to fully handle wake from hibernation obviously but didnt update the drivers for the 2013-2014 because apple has a vested interest in making their proprietary ssds non-backwards compatible and making the '13-'14 MacBooks non-foward compatible.
As for Apple NVMe drive, (like the Apple SSD SM2024L as founded in the 2017 iMacs, or the 24GB fusion drive of the 2015 iMacs), to this date the tests I have done yet are : - Mac Pro late 2013 : doesn't work - MacBook Air early 2014 : doesn't work - Macmini Late 2014 : works - MacBook Air early 2015 : works - MacBook Pro 15" early 2015 : works

Inge83. 1) use a new NVMe with $10 adapter getting the 1300/1300 speed boost, but sacrificing deep sleep. 2) use an old non-NVMe with $2.5 adapter getting the 1300/1000 speed boost, no deep sleep problems. 3) use a new m.2 SATA with $2.5 adapter, get slower 550/520 speeds, but bigger storage and no deep sleep problems.
